Companies which fit the following criteria are best suited for the angel venture fair. However, we always look at a variety of opportunities. Feel free to convince us why we should look at or and investor should invest in your company.

Who should apply?

  • Emerging growth companies and other venture-ready companies.

  • Buyouts and acquisitions under $5 Million.

  • Your firm must be a legal entity.

  • Companies with actual current revenues not to exceed $10 million.

  • Companies seeking first or next round funding not greater than $3-$5 million.

  • Low-tech, no-tech, high-tech are all accepted.

Companies who get selected are entitled to attend exclusive networking sessions with angel investors throughout the entire process.

What is the AVF selection process like?

Company applications will be reviewed by a team of private investors and other experts from the Private Investors Forum, which includes venture capitalists, angels, and others.

  • Each judge is a representative from the private equity community and brings their own business expertise and insight to the participants.
    Approximately 30 semi-finalist companies who are looking for first or second rounds of funding will be selected from approximately 100 applications.
  • Companies with superior presentations (or which are deemed to be coach-able to make superior presentations) will be asked to be presenters.
  • Semi-Finalists will be provided with a mentor who will help refine PowerPoint presentations, which will be used to determine final selection.

Thirty-four companies will be selected to exhibit, 24 non-university and 10 university. In addition to exhibiting, 24 companies (non-university only) will also give a brief presentation in a breakout meeting room.

Ten of the companies are university entrepreneurs and they only exhibit.

What do the judges look for?

All application judges are active angel investors and/or professionals that work with Angels and Venture Capitalists. The investors in your field will be the one who scrutinize your business, thus, our judges know the industry for which they are judging your application.

After submitting a written application to AVF, more than 40 companies will be selected to deliver their elevator pitch at selection Day at Morgan Lewis’s offices in Philadelphia. From that program, companies will be selected to present at AVF.

Does the AVF provide additional value for the participants fees?

AVF and its sponsors are focused on enhancing the chances our entrepreneurs success by providing the following benefits of application:

  • Two tickets to three AVF events.
  • Annual subscription to the AVF monthly newsletter, which features expert interview and advice columns from successful entrepreneurs, business book authors, venture capitalist, corporate and intellectual property attorneys, accountants, sales, marketing and operations professionals.
  • Applicants will appear in the monthly newsletter with a link to the applicant’s site.
  • Introductions to potential strategic partners that can lead to business along with service providers that can provide expert advice and counsel to enhance the applicant’s chances of success.
